Let’s talk about skateboarding. It was first invented in the 1950s in California, created by surfers who wanted something to do when the waves were low. This activity was called “sidewalk surfing”.  Larry Stevenson invented the skateboard. The first commercial boards appeared in 1959.

Rodney Mullen and Tony Hawk are two of skateboarders iconics

  • Rodney Mullen who appear at the left (August 17, 1966) creator of numerous tricks, including the flatground ollie, kickflip, heelflip, impossible, and 360-flip. As a result, he has been called the “Godfather of freestyle Skateboarding”.
  • Tony Hawk (born May 12, 1968) A pioneer of modern vertical skateboarding, he completed the first documented “900” skateboarding trick in 1999. He also licensed a skateboarding video game series named after him published by Activision that same year.

WHAT ARE YOU: GOOFY OR REGULAR?

You can skate in either of these stance, whichever is preferable for you. There is really no way to tell which one is better for you. Some skaters will just automatically go into a goofy stance, while some will prefer regular.

By the way, you know why it’s called goofy?

Weirdly, the name of this stance is derived from an old cartoon; the character was riding with his left foot in the back of the board. The surfers adopted it, and the name has stuck ever since.

There’s really no way to know if you are goofy or regular skater. You just need to ride, and find out.

SKATEBOARDING TYPES

There’re three major parts in one skateboard: the deck (the board upon which the rider stands), the trucks (the construction that attaches the wheels to the deck), and the wheels. Originally, decks were made of wood, but later they were also made of aluminum, fibreglass, and plastic.

In this picture I selectionated the most typical boards. In Aria Rentals we offer cruiser model, the simulated surf feeling.

For example, in this picture there’s a surf skate. It’s a type that is designed to simulate the experience of surfing on water. Surfskates typically have a concave deck and special trucks that allow the board to pivot quickly and make tight turns, just like a surfboard. This makes them ideal for doing tricks and riding waves in the skatepark.

In Tarifa is Skatepark ColaCao. It’s in very good condition and you can go when there’s no waves and no wind.

So it’s time to ride.
